The Litter Control Association and PalmettoPride work to convey the message that every citizen has a responsibility to help keep South Carolina beautiful. Perhaps the single most meaningful element in the success of any anti-litter campaign is the effect it has on students. If we can teach our children the importance of cleaning up our state and educate them to stop litter at its source, then we have a chance to finally eliminate litter in South Carolina.
You must teach your children that the ground beneath their feet is the ashes of your grandfathers. So that they will respect the land, tell your children that the earth is rich with the lives of our kin. Teach your children what we have taught our children, that the earth is our mother. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth.

Seminars and Conferences
Vital to Growth
The Litter Control Association strives to educate the members of the organization on the many aspects of Litter Control and social change. Lt. Cowan instructs a class on the “Broken Window” theory at a recent seminar. Richland County is on the cutting edge of this type of creative enforcement and education. Lt. Cowan explains to the group the need to get everyone involved in the process of changing our communities. Richland County and his team have shown first hand the positive results of their actions to better the community in which they work and live.
