One World, Two WheelsSM is a Trek commitment to helping the world become a more bicycle friendly place. With the world facing skyrocketing obesity rates, escalating traffic congestion and the concerns of global climate change, the bicycle is an under utilized solution. Trek, via One World, Two Wheels, is taking steps to alleviate the obstacles that prevent people from using bicycles for transportation, as well as recreation.
Trek's commitment has a combined dollar value of $1.6 million over the next three years to support the League of American Bicyclists' Bicycle Friendly Community program and to fund trail development with IMBA, The International Mountain Bicycling Association. In addition to pledging dollars, Trek has challenged its network of retail dealers to strengthen bike advocacy efforts in their communities. To aid them, Trek is supplying how to materials and has hired a full time advocacy director. A key goal of One World, Two Wheels is to increase US trips taken by bicycle to 5% from the current 1% by 2017. With nearly 40% of car trips taken being under two miles, it's an achievable goal.
