WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO?

We have been asked over and over again why we continue to fight the battle against litter. It sometimes seems to be a battle with no end. Yet everyone involved in the battle against litter couldn't see themselves doing anything else. Yes it can be very frustrating but we have to change behavior one step at a time. We have become a society that finds it easier to throw something on the side of the road than to find a trash bin. The Litter Control Association strives to change attitudes toward litter. We work hard through both enforcement and education to change the way individuals and communities feel about trash. This page is dedicated to the litterbugs of our state.

“Out of sight” is not “Out of mind”

This is why we do what we do!

We can't look away

Everyday our rivers and streams become more polluted with trash and debris. Public awareness is the key to promoting better Litter Laws and better prevention programs.

We Can't Keep Trashing Our Planet

We must continue the battle to clean up our environment and teach our children that we must treat our planet with respect.

Cleanups are vital...

Cigarette Butts Are Litter

Too often as Law Enforcement Officers we hear the same line over and over again; it is only one cigarette butt. The truth is even the smallest amount of litter becomes a major problem. Just look down the next time you stop at an intersection and you will see what we mean.

Graffiti Hurts

We must educate the public on the true meaning of graffiti and the necessity of removing it as soon as possible. We must take the steps to prevent graffiti and show individuals that tag our communities we will not stand for it.

Uncovered Loads…

Uncovered loads account for a large portion of litter in our state. You must cover your load to prevent the possibility of trash blowing from your vehicle. Take a little extra time and cover your load. Our environment will appreciate it.

Do this and pay the price...We will get you...

Top Ten Excuses Officers Hear

1- I didn't know I was littering

2- It is just one cigarette butt!

3- The wind blew it out of my hand

4- It isn't illegal in my state.

5- What does it matter, everyone does it.

6- Don't you have real criminals to catch.

7- The dump was closed, what was I supposed to do!

8- I didn't know I had to cover it.

9- Your not a real cop, you can't give me a ticket.

10-YOU ARE CHARGING ME HOW MUCH?!

And for the Spartanburg County Crowd
